- The emperor was the most important, then the king and governor, then came state officials and nobles & scholars, then it was the peasants, then artisans and merchants, then soldiers, and the lowest social ranking were slaves.
- CItizens usually had civil service jobs, or they were small farm landowners.
- Many of the people came from assimilation which is the process of making conquered people citizens.
- In China's society, they had monopolies on the mining of salt, forging of iron, and making of coins.
- A Monopoly is when a group has exclusive control over the production and distribution of certain goods.
- Agriculture was the main interest of the society.
- Manufacturing and commerce were also very important to the Han Dynasty.
